Like every Sunday, yesterday started out with early morning personal prayer, 8 am guitar class for the youth, traveling up the mountain to lead celebration of the word and distributing Holy Communion to the faithful in a small community, followed by sacramental prep class, and a planned home visit to bring Holy Communion to Alciavidez who we have been visiting each Sunday for a few months now. We were greeted by his wife who quickly told me that he passed away in the middle of the night. So, needless to say plans had changed, and now instead of bringing Holy common and singing joyful songs, I was now asked to lead prayer and the rosary.
I was amazed at the fact that by the time his family and
I wrapped up the prayers, along with a few songs and visiting among one another,
a group of Alciavidez’s family members had arrived with the most beautiful coffin
I have ever seen to lay him in.
Journeying with this family has been quite different
than most, perhaps it is because Alciavidez suffered for a long time, so they
were already prepared for his death, but I rather say it is due to the fact
that Alciavidez along with his family were spiritual prepared. Both Alciavidez
and his wife were faithful to the Lord and the vocation of marriage and indeed
the fruits of their labors can be seen within their children and grandchildren.
Eternal rest grant unto Alciavidez, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him
